Our Mission
Crafted from a love for the great outdoors and a passion for adventure, APEX originated in the wilds of Alaska, during a 10-day backcountry trip 100 miles from the nearest civilization.
While sitting high on a mountain glassing for caribou, founder Steven McBee noticed his beef jerky he had packed for the trip contained almost as much sugar as the candy bar his brother was eating.
What was supposed to be a healthy snack was anything but - and Steven wanted to get to the bottom of it.
Once back in civilization, Steven traveled the Country to find out more about the meat snack industry - and how it was built on the back of a great marketing lie:
Lean meat is healthy - but the meats going into modern day jerky and snack sticks are the "junk" that's leftover once the good meat is gone. Add in a bunch of sugar, fillers and artificial ingredients, and you have a cheap meat product that tastes good and can be marketed as a health snack ... but is FAR from it.
The convenience of having a portable, packable, shelf stable snack is great - but nutritionally if it's garbage, what good does it do for someone trying to live a healthy lifestyle?
Answer: NOTHING
Knowing healthy snacking was a problem for so many people, and seeing how the meat snack industry leveraged false marketing to sell what are essentially meat candy bars to unaware consumers, Steven saw an opportunity.
What if a brand focused on better ingredients, leaner meats - and going direct-to-consumer to tell the story of how meat snacks are made with 100% transparency?
And with that - APEX was born.
APEX was created for the adventurers at heart. Those that live to push the boundaries of their own life - and see how far they can really go.
